Alfred Kubin

*1877   +1959

Kubin attended the private school for painting of Ludwig Schmid-Reutte in Munich and the Royal Academy with Nicholas Gysi (painting). Kubin was an artist, illustrator and writer and is considered one of the important exponents of Expressionism. He was a member of the painters group "Der Blaue Reiter". Inspired by the works of Max Klinger, Edvard Munch, Odilon Redon and Francisco de Goya and publications by Schopenhauer and Nietzsche his colored pen drawings and lithographs reflect a sinister symbolism.
