Ernst Caramelle

*1952   lives and works in Frankfurt on the Main and New York

Since the 1970s, Ernst Caramelle has created an impressively complex body of work in many media - drawing, photography, light works, and painting on wood, cardboard, gesso ground, and murals. His conceptual works often take up architectural elements of their surroundings, mirroring perspectives and creating new spatial illusions from them. He is interested in the credibility of the visible, the question of original and fake, production and reproduction - freely according to the motto "Art is a fake".

Discover our Collection

Discover the almost 1,200 works in our constantly growing collection in our online database. In the future, the collection will be expanded primarily through the purchases of current contemporary art associated with the art prizes. However, the jury will also recommend annual purchases to the Board of Directors to supplement the existing holdings of recent Tyrolean art history.
