Franz Schunbach

*1898   +1981

He studied at the University of Fine Arts in Budapest. Captured by the Americans in 1945 and imprisoned in Schloss Itter. Initially known for his drawings and etchings, his painting is influenced by Hungarian plein air painting of the Nagybánya school and his teacher István Sz?nyi. In Tyrol Schunbach developed an expressive realism and a way of representing the everyday that was rich in colour.

Discover the almost 1,200 works in our constantly growing collection in our online database. In the future, the collection will be expanded primarily through the purchases of current contemporary art associated with the art prizes. However, the jury will also recommend annual purchases to the Board of Directors to supplement the existing holdings of recent Tyrolean art history.
