Gerald Nestler

*1964   lives and works in Vienna

Nestler is an artist and author who combines theory with installation, performance, video, signs, sound, codes and speech. He explores the derivative condition of contemporary social relations and its models, technologies, processes and narratives. Currently, he is working on an aesthetics of resolution that proposes renegade activism as an artist-activist approach against black box information asymmetries and non-transparency. He also develops and curates postdisciplinary conversation and exhibition formats between art, theory, science and other fields of expertise. Gerald is a member of the Technopolitics research group, Vienna. He was a researcher at Forensic Architecture and holds a PhD from the Centre for Research Architecture, Goldsmith, University of London.

Discover our Collection

Discover the almost 1,200 works in our constantly growing collection in our online database. In the future, the collection will be expanded primarily through the purchases of current contemporary art associated with the art prizes. However, the jury will also recommend annual purchases to the Board of Directors to supplement the existing holdings of recent Tyrolean art history.
