Giuseppe Kien

*1903   +1985  

(possibly: Kien Josef or Kienlechner Josef)
He studied painting under Leo von König from 1919, and under Carl Hofer at the Academy of Arts in Berlin 1920-1923. Founder member of the Innsbruck Secession 1925-26 and became friends with the group behind Der Brenner magazine. Initially influenced by Cubism and the École de Paris, after stays in Paris, Kien's painting developed (still lifes, mosaics, stained glass windows) from the 1950s from figurative representations to abstract, airy and colourful compositions.

In the future, the collection will be expanded primarily through the purchases of current contemporary art associated with the art prizes. However, the jury will also recommend annual purchases to the Board of Directors to supplement the existing holdings of recent Tyrolean art history.
