Soli Kiani, who was born in Iran in 1981 and has made her home in Vienna for several years, uses various media to sketch this oppressive reality. The exhibition (in)human focuses primarily on objects and installations made of rope and textiles. However, these seemingly soft and harmless materials carry an oppressive weight: ropes play an essential role in the torment and punishment that takes place almost daily. For their part, her pressed textile objects reflect the oppression and veiling that women experience in Iran. At the same time, however, they also tell of a deep human urge and, above all, the courage of people to free themselves from the chains of social constraints and fight for freedom.
Soli Kiani - (in)human is a powerful reflection on the conditions of life in Iran, on censorship and violence, and on the constant struggle for self-determination and dignity.
