He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Franz von Defregger and Wilhelm von Kaulbach. Nikodem's large-format landscapes have their roots in Viennese Art Nouveau, but are still in the tradition of Tyrol landscape painting. Numerous photographic portraits of the city and of women.
