Oskar Kokoschka

*1886   +1980

Kokoschka studied at Vienna School of Arts and Crafts 1905-09. In his early works, influenced by the linear style of the Vienna Secession, Kokoschka became a proponent of Expressionism. Kokoschka's use of colour was initially dominant, but became more restrained in his later cityscapes and landscapes, where he had a unique way of uniting the view from above with the view into the distance.
